shoes

Net art class was funny today. I have some photos of the Getty to put up but after that I'm kind of over blue skies. I think it makes photos look so cheesy.

first day of school

Yesterday after classes (which ended at 8 for me, and was v stressful because what are schedules) B & I went to Chicken Itza, on the total opposite side of campus. Very yummy. This is what I wore - basically my standard outfit for the past few months.

As you can see, brand new white and sparkly AF1s. I put leather lotion on them. These babies are going to be clean all the time.

Back to food.

I'm not too sure what those were, I just saw the pink pickled onions on the menu and decided I needed them. They were kinda dry, sometimes tasteless & I'm definitely not going to get them again.

Tacos tacos tacos.

I only got those two dishes but the past days have been busy - driving down to LA and moving and first day stresses - so I haven't been having regular meals. And before dinner yesterday I don't even know what I was eating because I was running around campus (adventure - I went to a comm class. That was funny) and so after eating all of the above I felt so sick and full. Went on a walk to Ralph's to get juicing supplies. Everything made me feel sick, I was that full. So grabbed apples, almond milk and cereal and now I'm wishing I had picked up some goodies too. Thank god Celaya is right next door.

menswear for dinner

I haven't gone a day back home without wearing that coat. Winter break is the only time I get access to this so I make sure it never leaves my side - mother just asked me to stop using it as a bathrobe as it's hers and it's too nice for me to be wearing it nonstop. I found the pants in my closet. I remember being with Mariel when she bought them but she's never worn them so I guess they're mine now (?).

Henri got oysters to start so I took one (the missing one, do you see where it should be?). They taste like mermaids.

And then I got a wild boar pasta dish and I dunno, the cheese was nice? The boar was not as soft and yummy as it was when we went to Sotto in LA but you know, I couldn't really complain because it was still decent and food snobs are annoying sometimes. But I probably would have chosen to have a dozen more oysters over the boar.

quick update

Currently in 'study mode' (lol). Not really because I only need to pass but whatever. I'm indulging in the whole cliché of the student + coffee + breaks + library + not actually doing a whole lot. Definitely more than passing these classes. Anyway, the above photos are very accurate depictions of what I've been doing and wearing (variations of the same exact thing & clearly same pose). I have other photos - many of them actually - but I cbf to edit them rn because I'm only here for a few more weeks and all my free time is going towards being social. But I'll do it. I swear. Once I'm done w/school that is.

SO STANDARD

Honestly the things I wear are so similar that the only way I can change things up is to change my hair and nails. So I'm going to continue growing out my hair and then learn how to french braid three braids in my hair. That's my next phase. I just bought 4 basics from H&M and Zara...the only cool things in my closet are my coats and I can't wear them here. About to head out to XXX Gallery - supposedly there's a cool DJ playing there, so cool of me huh? Staying up to date with the times and everything.

NEW SHOES AND THE OZONE BAR

So when my godmother visits me she always likes to spoil me a little. I got these shoes from Topshop for just under 400HKD, those pants from Uniqlo (one in black that I bought for myself, one in navy that she bought for me), a skirt and sleeping set from Uniqlo and a sweater from Aland. She was only here for three days and it was way too short. And Isabelle leaves tomorrow and that is ridiculous. At least we were snap happy, so I will show those photos off. Once my midterm is over. In China's Cultural Past. That I may actually fail.

WORKING BASIC

I have a list of clothes that I need to buy and I can finally cross one off - black miniskirt that I can throw on with a tank top or sweater or t-shirt or slides or boots or just about anything. My only black skirt was this Nike tennis one and it honestly would have done the trick if it a) didn't have the Nike logo and b) wasn't made of spandex. I wear it out back at school because it's like all house parties and the occasional frat so that doesn't really matter, but here it's better to just wear a normal black skirt. And it's got a cool school-girl vibe w/black leather inserts!

The slides are a godsend and I get compliments on them daily and it's good. Now, off to single-handedly do research for a presentation because my group blows.

It's kind of funny looking at these photos and at how girly I'm dressing. If I were to see these photos like last fall or even last spring I would have been completely weirded out...I go from dressing like a homeless person to dressing like I'm a boy to dressing like I'm from Compton to dressing like a total girl to dressing homeless again. And now I just want my red fur coat.

HOT DOG SHOES

The locals think that doing laundry = party. It's the most annoying thing I have ever had to deal with. So I just sit by the dryer (you honestly have to hog what you want b/c if you miss it by even 0.00003 seconds they will snatch it those hungry laundry beasts) and take photos of my legs because that's how bored I get. Even though I hate saying I'm bored because only boring people get bored so I guess I should start bringing a book or something instead of playing Solitaire for a good 20 minutes straight.

This has been a really productive post.

ps - I was trying to spell laundry "laundray"

SAYING GOODBYE TO HOLLYWOOD

Given the fact that I'm in Hong Kong I feel like I should make more of an effort to blog and get back to doing one blog post a day, regardless of how poorly styled they are or if I jump from real photos to webcam photos I DON'T CARE.

These are two outfits that I've been wearing since basically high school. Mariel's had this dress for a while and I've been wearing it for at least 3 years. It's weird how I wear the same thing religiously for a good 5 months, put it away for a year and get back to it. It makes me wonder if I should through stuff away or just wait for my taste to reemerge (uh oh I already don't throw my magazines away. Look out for me on Hoarders).

Also, I'm back to listening to early 2000 Eminem if y'all couldn't tell from the title.

THE UNIFORM :: (AND BACK TO MY ROOTS)

Since the webcam is my favorite outfit documenter, I decided to show it some love and give it Isabelle times 2.

I wear these slides almost daily. As much as I try to switch it up I keep going back because they're just so comfortable and sporty. It's a bit like the Nike tennis skirt I wore all of last year, except in Adidas slides form.

For some reason an exposed back makes me feel way more naked than a deep v-neck. Usually if my back is super exposed I prefer to wear my hair down.

And there was this SVU episode where a girl was wearing a tube top at a concert and this gang, in the middle of the floor, surrounded her, pulled her top down and raped her. I am now forever terrified of this happening to me anywhere so I make sure those ties are triple knotted, no joke.

SINMEI TEA

Sinmei Tea is a teahouse completely inspired by green tea - as in every drink and pastry has green tea in it in some form. It's in Sheung Wan on Wing Lok street and you have to enter a very business-like building to get to a kind of stuffy but totally awesome tearoom:

Henri and I have been traveling around Hong Kong for the past few days (mostly Henri though, I've been trying to make friends at school, which if you know me in real life, is a real challenge on account of the fact that I make possibly the w o r s t first impression) and a lot of the places we've been to are supposed to be really awesome but are in fact full of white people who don't wear pants and aren't cool, which is not what we were trying to go for.

Luckily Lum was working at a store Henri was shopping at and introduced himself. He's from Hong Kong and is an aspiring singer - I need to find his YouTube channel though. I saw some videos and they have a decent amount of views, plus he told us that after we had left visiting him at work, a young couple started talking to him and told him they were fans!!

Henri ordered plain green matcha tea (in the black cup), Lum got the hot chocolate green tea (which I'm definitely ordering next time) and I got the Chai Chai, which is basically chai-infused green tea. We also ordered this green-tea cake w/green tea ice cream...

Which is a total killer! Would you look at that! I normally only like chocolate desserts, but I have to say that this lava cake may have stolen my chocolate heart (I'm totally kidding. But I'm also now debating if given the choice, would I pick a chocolate or a green tea lava cake right now??).

The happy family!

And finally. Let me say something about the heat. It's forever around 90 degrees and the humidity is insane. So insane that every time I successfully put on jeans I cannot help but feel like the biggest superstar of all. The first two days I wore dresses but just about everyone here ignores the heat and wears whatever - I think it's because everything is air conditioned, and public transport takes you wherever you need to go, minimizing your time walking and allowing you to wear pants.

But I had to buy more tops. I need new shoes too. I crave that clunk.

BACK HOME IN PORTLAND

When I accompanied my mother on her afternoon walk around the river, I saw a girl with "Inperfection Is Beauty" tattooed on her shoulder blade and I cried inside.

But other than sightings like that, Portland's pretty nice. Where else can you find so much greenery while driving downtown??

I have tons of videos of the farmer's market and other places but I can't figure out how to edit movies so I guess once I finish Photoshop + HTML tutorials on Lynda, I'm going to have to teach myself movie editing tricks.

Mariel came to Portland for the weekend for the sole purpose of recreating a photo from 13 years ago. I would expect nothing less from my mother.

And this has become my life, not that I'm complaining:

I bought slides. Two things from Adidas and I can't wait to keep on adding.

I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU

It's the coat!!! Just look at how it flies, look at how light it is - totally perfect for those ~cold~ LA desert nights.

Can you see how nice it looks? It's like touching air. And the color is absolutely insane.

Wow I'm actually at a loss for words. Generally speaking, my writing to photo ratio is way, way off but clearly I just want y'all to pay attention to the gifs instead of to the text.

Except for doesn't it look like I'm petting the screen in the second one? I'm kind of giggling now.
